FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SENATOR BRAMBLE HONORED AS LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR SALT LAKE CITY - Senator Curtis S. Bramble was presented the Legislator of the Year Award by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) in the Utah Senate Chamber this morning. This award is given to state legislators who have distinguished themselves by advancing policies based on the fundamental Jeffersonian principles of free markets, limited government, federalism and individual liberty. Only eight legislators in the nation were recognized this year. Jay Magure, ALEC Co-Chair for the State of Utah, presented the award, flanked by Utah Senate President John Valentine and Governor Jon Huntsman. “Sen. Bramble has been a leader in advocating for sound public policies including tax cuts, education, and the preservation of fundamental American rights,” said Mr. Magure. Prior to the presentation, Senator Bramble said, "I'm honored by the recognition, but legislative service is a team sport. This is a credit to my colleagues on all sides of the partisan divide who have supported solid legislative initiatives. It's good to see Utah get the recognition she deserves for her role among sister-states." Senate Minority Leader Mike Dmitrich added unique perspective. "In my forty years as a democratic legislator - most of them in a leadership position - one of the very best, most cooperative, helpful, fair, consensus building Republican leaders I ever dealt with is Senate Majority Leader Curt Bramble," said Senator Dmitrich. "Sure he is conservative and aggressive, but he understands and values the role of the minority voice, its leaders and members. I have particularly enjoyed working with him on issues involving rural Utah." Senate President John Valentine added, "Curt Bramble fills leadership roles at both ALEC and NCSL and is working intently on policy challenges like immigration, energy and tax policy with our colleagues around the nation. He is one of a team of legislators making sure Utah's perspective and common-sense solutions are heard on a national stage." ALEC is the nation's largest nonpartisan, individual membership organization of state legislators, with over 2,000 legislator members from all fifty states, and 84 former members serving in the U.S. Congress. # # #
